OSWEGO, N.Y. – The North East Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) has released the Women’s Ice Hockey All-Conference awards for the 2022-23 season. On this list, the Lakers have three selections. Amanda Zenstien, Ariella Haas and Simone Bednarik.
A first team selection for the Lakers was Amanda Zenstein, Zenstein doubled her points from her junior year, doubling her assists and goals. The Senior transfer finished the season with 17 points, 13 assists and four goals on the blue line for the Lakers. The Chalfont, Pa native scored three of her four goals on the powerplay. In the season, Zenstein had three multi-point games including a three-point game against SUNY Potsdam on February 4th.
Named to the second team was Senior Assistant Captain Ariella Haas, Haas finished the season first in points, first in assists and third in goals for the Lakers with 26 games played. In her two years at Oswego, Haas has put up 41 total points, 21 in her first year as a Laker and 20 this year for the Senior transfer. Hass finished the years with zero penalty minutes, which is a tough feat with the physical and demanding style of game the Lakers play.
Simone Bednarik was also named to the second team All-NEWHL. This season, Bednarik matched her freshman season total in goals with six, outmatched her assists total with ten and earned three more total points than she did in her freshman season. The Elmhurst, IL native played a more physical and complete game this year while also beating her offensive totals. With three game-winning goals this year, Bednarik is continuing to become one of the league’s best complete players. With 29 career points, 17 assists and 12 goals, Bednarik looks to continue her complete all around game going into her junior season.
This is the first All-Conference selections for Haas and Zenstein, Bednarik was named to the all-rookie team last year and makes her first appearance on NEWHL all-conference in her sophomore season.
