Women’s Ice Hockey Earns Win In North Country

Canton, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women’s Hockey team earned their first win of the season in an away contest against the Canton Roo’s this afternoon. The Lakers had four different scorers; Myah Booth, Kyleigh Grugin, Ashlyn McGrath and Avery Webster each contributed a goal.

Final Scores: Oswego 4 , Canton 1 

Location: Roo’s House, Canton, N.Y.

Records: Oswego State (1-3-0, 1-1-0 NEWHL), SUNY Canton (2-1-1 1-1-0 NEWHL)

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The Lakers started the game aggressive, recording four shots before Canton was able to gain possession of the puck. 

Oswego would continue putting pressure on Canton, eventually scoring late in the first period. Booth tallied the first goal of the contest for the Lakers, assisted by Kaylen Taddia,

Lexi Levi stopped seven of Canton’s shots in the first period.

Canton responded with a goal of their own two minutes into the second period. This tied the game up 1-1. 

Oswego received a power play nine minutes into the contest off a penalty from Canton. The Lakers capitalized on the opportunity, as Webster notched in a goal assisted by Rheya Zemlak and McGrath.

 The Lakers would protect their 2-1 lead for the rest of the second period. 

Five minutes into the third period, The Lakers took the 3-1 advantage off a goal from Mcgrath. This was assisted by Webster and Zemlak. 

The score remained 3-1 until the last two minutes of the third period. The last goal of the contest was scored by Grugin, assisted by Ariella Haas and Amanda Zenstein

Levi had 15 saves for the Lakers.

McGrath and Webster both earned a goal and assist for Oswego. 

WHAT’S NEXT

Oswego will look to continue their win streak as they travel to Morrisville College this Friday, November 11th for a 4:00 PM matchup vs the Mustangs. .
