The Utica Pioneers Women’s Hockey Team (3-1-1 overall, 3-0-1 UCHC) will find themselves in a brand new environment when they take on UCHC rival the Stevenson Mustangs (4-2-0 overall, 2-0-0 UCHC) on Friday and Saturday. They are not playing on the road or even in a neutral site. Instead, they will be playing their first games in their new home at the brand-new Nexus Center which is adjacent to the building they have called home for years – the Adirondack Bank Center.
The Pioneers are going into this weekend’s games riding a four-game undefeated streak. Since narrowly losing to fourth-ranked Elmira College in their season-opening game, Utica has won three games and tied one (they won that game in the shootout but it counts as a tie in the standings). In this four-game unbeaten streak, the Pioneers have outscored their opponents by a 29-1 margin. Coach Dave Clausen’s team is firing on all cylinders, as they are fourth overall in Division III in goals per game, and fifth in goals against per game. The Pioneers received ten votes in the most recent USCHO national Women’s Division III poll.
