Saturday, December 15th
Rochester Monarchs (10-17-1) – 1
Syracuse Stars (11-13-2) – 5
Syracuse was lead by two goals and assist from Kabore Dunn and three assists from Dominik Bogdziul in their 5-1 win Saturday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Buster Larsson put the home team up 1-0 at the 9:52 mark of the first with assists going to Dunn and Bogdziul. Dunn scored a goal of his own three minutes later assisted by Timmy Kent and Dylan Rallis to give his team a 2-0 lead.
Rallis scored at 7:09 of a penalty filled second period with assists going to recent UNE commit Mathieu Gervais and Kent. Dunn and Gregory McGunigle scored in third extending the Syracuse lead to 5-1 before Rochester was able to sneak one past David Otter (28 saves) at 11:02.
Sunday, December 16th
Rochester Monarchs (10-18-1) – 2
Syracuse Stars (12-13-2) – 6
A hat-trick from McGunigle and three assists from Larsson gave Syracuse a 6-2 victory, and weekend sweep of the Monarch Sunday afternoon at the New Hartford Recreation Center. The teams traded goals in the first four minutes of action with Rochester striking first, but Gervais answering back just over a minute later. Rochester jumped out to a 2-1 lead at 8:22 of the first, but Cannon Green fired home his fifth of the year with 4:30 remaining in the first tying things up at two.
McGunigle scored his first of the game 5:09 into the second giving Syracuse their first lead of the game. Tyler Knicley who regularly plays for the Premier team (13 goals and 19 assists through 25 games) suited up for the NCDC team and scored an insurance marker at 17:36 of the second. Timmy Kent and Sam Lau assisted on Knicley’s first NCDC goal of the season.
McGunigle finished his hat-trick in the third scoring two power-play goals at 15:28 assisted by Larsson and Jeremy Gabriele and again at 19:21 assisted by Bogdziul and Larsson. Nick Wiencek was in net and made 33 saves.
The Stars return from holiday break January 5th where they will be playing in the USPHL winter showcase in Massachusetts. They will be playing games against the South Shore Kings, Boston Bandits and Connecticut Junior Rangers.
Friday, December 14th
Syracuse Stars (12-11-1) – 4
Rochester Monarchs (5-16-1) – 2
Syracuse traveled to Rochester Friday night for the first of three straight games against the Monarchs. Tyler Knicley started things off scoring only 3:25 into the first period. Kyle Cronin extended that lead to 2-0 at 6:12 of the second period. Rochester scored with one second left in the period putting them down by one goal with one period left to play. 4:27 into the third the Monarchs were able to tie the game at two goals apiece. Dalton Blundell broke the tie at the 11:30 mark and Cronin scored an empty-netter insurance marker at 18:06 for the 4-2 final. Aleksandr Solovev stopped 19 shots in the win.
Saturday, December 15th
Rochester Monarchs (5-17-1) – 2
Syracuse Stars (13-11-1) – 8
Syracuse went 4-for-4 on the power-play and Tripp Clarke made 28 saves as the Stars downed the Monarchs Saturday night at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica. Once against the Stars scored the first goal of the game. Ole Henrik Arnesen scored his fifth of the year on the power-play at 7:20 of the first with assists going to Knicley and Luke Olivo. Rochester tied it at one less than a minute later, but Hunter Mazur (Rome, NY) scored his first of the season at 14:34 to give Syracuse a lead they would not give up.
Anthony Morin, Morgan Clarke-Pizzo, Henry Froass (Oneida, NY) and Bryce Grennan all scored in the second period giving Syracuse a 6-1 lead heading into the third period. Cody O’Brien and Brennan Ash both scored their first goals of the season in the third. Tyson Rohrer finished with 4 assists, Knicley had 3 assists, and every player except three had at least one point.
Sunday, December 16th
Rochester Monarchs (5-18-1) – 2
Syracuse Stars (14-11-1) – 4
After a scoreless first period the teams erupted for a combined give in the second. Michael Biben scored his first goal of the season at 3:58 while on a power-play to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead. Froass and Morin assisted. That lead was extended to 2-0 50 seconds later on a Cronin goal with assists going to Mazur and Ash. Grennan scored a minute after that to put the Stars ahead 3-0 less than six minutes into the second.
Rochester battled back hard and scored a power-play goal at 17:10 followed by an even strength goal at 18:07 to cut the deficit to one goal. The score stood at 3-2 throughout the final period until Olivo scored an empty netter with 2.5 left on the clock sealing the victory and three game sweep of Rochester. In net for the Stars was Colin Frost making his first start of the season. He finished with 35 saves including a couple excellent saves late in the third period when the game was on the line.
The Premier team will also be traveling to play in the USPHL Winter Showcase after holiday break. The Premier team will be playing games against the Carolina Eagles, Chicago Cougars, Midwest Blackbirds and Atlanta Jr Kings.
