NCDC First Round Playoffs

Friday, March 15th

Syracuse Stars – 0
Connecticut Jr Rangers – 4

The Stars were outshot 44-26 and went 0-for-4 with the man advantage as they dropped game 1 of the series 4-0. Nick Wiencek made 40 saves in goal. Connecticut was ahead 2-0 after twenty minutes and added a goal in each of the two remaining periods.

Saturday, March 16th

Syracuse Stars – 2
Connecticut Jr Rangers – 3

Syracuse was once again outshot, this time 41-28, but managed to at least score a couple goals in this one. Mathieu Gervais gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 5:31 of the first period. Dylan Rallis broke up a play in the defensive zone before skatin the length of the ice and feeding Gervais in front of the net who one-timed the puck home.

Syracuse maintained their 1-0 lead into the final 20 minutes where the Rangers scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Kabore Dunn added one late assisted by Gervais and Rallis, but the Stars ran out of time and saw their season come to an end. David Otter made 38 saves.

The team will undoubtedly look different next year, which is almost always the case within Junior Hockey. As of right now there have only been two commitments from Gervais and Wiencek, but I am sure there will be more in the near future from guys like Buster Larsson, Dominik Bogdziul, and Rallis.

The team is being rebranded over the summer and will now play under the name Utica Jr Comets.
