After a back-and-forth 40 minutes of play, Syracuse pulled away in the third to cruise to a 6-3 victory Saturday night.
Hartford Wolf Pack (11-4-0-5) – 3
Syracuse Crunch (10-6-2-0) – 6
The Crunch opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 15:51 of the first period. Ross Colton centered a pass to Dennis Yan who fired it home for his fifth of the year. The Wolf Pack would tied things up before the end of the period.
Chris Mueller recorded his sixth of the year at 4:51 putting the home team ahead 2-1. Once again the Wolf Pack answered locking the game at two goals a piece. While on a short-handed breakaway Mitchell Stephens was slashed which resulted in a penalty shot being awarded. Stephens buried his penalty shot opportunity five-hole regaining the Syracuse one goal lead.
In the third period, Syracuse increased their lead to 5-2 on Colton and Danick Martel goals only 31 seconds apart. Syracuse native Boo Nieves assisted on a Wolf Pack goal at 16:03 as they attempted a comeback. A Mueller short-handed empty net goal sealed the 6-3 victory. Scott Wedgewood made 22 saves in goal for the Crunch.
