SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Crunch have announced additional details for the 2021-22 Home Opener presented by Upstate University Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 23.
Party on the Plaza
Fans are invited to join the Crunch and Galaxy Media for fun and games on the plaza from 4 to 6:30 p.m. before heading inside the Upstate Medical University Arena for the night’s game against the Utica Comets at 7 p.m. The Everson Museum Plaza is located directly across from the S. State St. entrance of the arena.
The Party on the Plaza will feature on-air personalities from ESPN Radio Syracuse, the radio home of the Syracuse Crunch, and KROCK. Galaxy Media will have a table where fans can enter-to-win tickets, a team-signed stick and a Syracuse Crunch jersey. A slap shot cage and other games will also be set up for Crunch fans. Additionally, the Big Awesome BBQ, Cluck N’ Burger, Cam’s Pizza, Exhale Bake Shop and Cuse Dogs food trucks will be in attendance. A beer station will also be available on the plaza.
The Crunch will also hold prescreening for the Oct. 23 game at Party on the Plaza. Fans may bring their proof of vaccination and a photo ID to receive a wristband and ability to use the fast lane when entering the arena for that night’s game. More information about attending games and the COVID-19 policies can be found at www.syracusecrunch.com/covidfaqs.
Doors for the Home Opener will open at 5:45 p.m. for all fans. Fans may enter through both the S. State St. entrance or Montgomery St. entrance. Both sides of the building will feature two entry lanes – the fast lane for those with a prescreened wristband or Syracuse Crunch ID card and general entry for those who need to show their proof of vaccination or purchase tickets. Fans that have taken their photo for the Syracuse Crunch ID card but have not yet received it will still be able to enter through the fast lane on S. State St. where they will receive their cards.
Upon entry, fans should be prepared to go through a metal detector and bag check. Fans should also note that ASM Global has transitioned the Upstate Medical University Arena into a cashless concessions venue. All major credit cards are accepted at concessions stands.
Fans are encouraged to get to their seats early for an opening ceremony featuring a thank you to front-line and essential workers and a welcome back to fans. The ceremony will also introduce the 2021-22 Crunch team and staff.
During the game, the Crunch will wear throwback uniforms that replicate the white 1994 jerseys. This celebrates the return of live hockey with fans in attendance. The pause in fan attendance during the pandemic marks only the second-longest break in live hockey in Syracuse since the period between the Syracuse Hornets in 1981 and the arrival of the Crunch franchise in 1994. The night’s specialty jerseys will be white with teal and purple piping and feature the original Crunchman logo with the Tampa Bay Lightning and current Crunch logo on the shoulders.
The Stanley Cup
In addition to celebrating the return of live hockey, the Crunch will also welcome the Stanley Cup® to Syracuse during the Oct. 23 game. Fans in attendance will have exclusive access to take photos with the Cup during the game. The Stanley Cup® will be available for photos free of charge in Memorial Hall immediately following opening puck drop through the duration of the game.
All fans in attendance will also receive a poster featuring Crunch alumni who won the Stanley Cup® with the Tampa Bay Lightning in their back-to-back championships in 2020 and 2021.
Post-Game Jersey Auction
Following the game, the Crunch will hold a live auction for 10 jerseys worn that night. Fans participating in the post-game jersey auction should go to Sections 202 through 204 immediately following the game to bid. Fans that place the winning bid on jerseys will receive a form from a Crunch staff member that should be taken to Guest Services located behind Section 222. Payments will be processed at Guest Services and winners will receive their jerseys immediately after the auction ends.
The 10 jerseys in the post-game auction are Hugo Alnefelt, Gabriel Dumont, Fredrick Claesson, Simon Ryfors, Darren Raddysh, Gage Goncalves, Jimmy Huntington, Cal Foote, Antoine Morand and Sean Day, subject to change.
