HAMILTON—The Colgate women’s hockey team continued rolling as they improved to 4-0 on the season with a 4-2 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.
Just over six minutes into the game the Lakers pulled ahead when they came free with the puck after a scrum against the wall. Lilliane Perreault then passed to Jersey Phillips for an open shot that she sent past Kayle Osbourne.
Later in the period, the Raiders went on a power play during which Rosy Demers put one in the back of the net off the rebound from Sammy Smigliani’s shot as she tied it up at 1-1 with just under six minutes remaining.
Colgate took the lead in the second period when Dara Greig collected a loose puck in front of the net and put it in.
After pulling its goalkeeper, Mercyhurst got back within one when Kristy Pidgeon scored off a rebound to make it 3-2 with a minute to go.
The Lakers pressured heavily to find an equalizer but Osbourne and the defense held strong.
Osbourne had 23 saves in her third win of the year.
Colgate outshot Mercyhurst 28-25 and won the face off battle at 31-20.
The Raiders plays a pair of games at Vermont next weekend starting with a 2 p.m. game on Saturday.
