COLUMBUS, Ohio – Colgate women’s ice hockey tied No. 1 Ohio State 4-4 Tuesday night at OSU Ice Rink, before falling to the Buckeyes 2-1 in a shootout.
After two quick goals from OSU, Kas Betinol recorded her second goal of the season, potting the rubber off a wrap-a-round. Danielle Serdachny recorded her 17th assist of the year on the play. Betinol netted two points in the Raiders’ tie, her first multi-point game this season. The first period ended with the Buckeyes up 2-1.
In the second period, OSU jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Serdachny added to her night, recording her second point of the game off a breakaway goal. Halfway through the second, Kaitlyn O’Donohoe worked her way through two OSU defenders and slid the game-tying goal into the back of the net.
Kayle Osborne stood tall throughout the second period, making back-to-back saves on multiple occasions. Osborne’s strong play kept things equal at three as she stopped a total of 48 shots through 65 minutes of action.
Ohio State found the back of the net late in the second as the Buckeyes squeezed one past Osborne’s pads. The score sat 4-3 at the conclusion of 40 minutes of play.
Osborne came up strong halfway through the third period, stretching out to cover the puck and spoiling a strong offensive chance in the Raiders’ zone. Colgate found itself on the man advantage with just over seven minutes to go in the third period. Kristýna Kaltounková continued her strong offensive season after tipping one out front, tying the game at four apiece.
With under a minute to play, Osborne came up big, stopping a strong two on one offensive chance as the game was forced to overtime.
OSU found itself on the man advantage early in the overtime period before being tagged with their own minor penalty. After a back-and-forth battle, the game had to be decided with a shootout.
Through seven rounds, Serdachny was the only goal scorer for the Raiders. OSU found the back of the net twice, sealing the shootout win.
