Oswego Women Add Trio of NCAA Transfers

Oswego Women's Hockey Incoming Players 2022

The 2021-22 SUNY Oswego Lakers women’s hockey team finished the season with a very respectable 16-8-1 record which had them in second place in the Northeast Women’s Hockey League Standings. The only team ahead of them was National powerhouse SUNY Plattsburgh. The good news for the Lakers is the majority of the team will be returning for the 2022-23 season. Also joining the team this season are NCAA transfers Megan Gates, Kensie Malone, and Lexi Levy. First Year Zoe Leas will also be joining Mark Digby’s team this season.

Megan Gates

Megan Gates from Natick, Massachusetts is joining the Lakers after spending one season at Sacred Heart University. Gates appeared in 10 games for Sacred Heart University last season. She recorded 3 assists.

Prior to Sacred Heart, Gates made Second-Team All-New England Preparatory School Athletic Council while attending the Tilton School. She captained the Tilton Team during her senior season in 2021 and was named NEHJ Prep School Girls Player of the Year.

Zoe Leas

Previous Team: Delta Hockey Academy U18 Prep (CSSHL U18 (W))

Zoe Leas makes her way to Oswego, NY all the way from Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory of Canada. She spent last season split between the Whitby Wolves of the Ontario Women’s Hockey League and Delta Hockey Academy who participates in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

She recorded 2 goals and 7 assists in 24 games total. However, Leas stepped up her game in the playoffs with Delta Hockey Academy and potted 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists) in only 5 games.

Kensie Malone

Kensie Malone (Forward)

5’5″  |  3/6/2002  |  Minneapolis, MN

Previous Team: Augsburg University (NCAA III (W))

Malone is a 5’5″ forward from Minneapolis, Minnesota who is joining the Lakers in the fall. She is a junior transfer from NCAA DIII Augsburg University. In 36 games she has scored 14 goals to go along with 16 assists and 12 penalty minutes.

Lexi Levy

Previous Team: Post University (NCAA (W))

Levy is another transfer joining the Lakers this season. She joins the squad after spending two years with Post University (NCAA DI). She only appeared in 7 games during that time finishing with a 1-5-0 record, 4.38 GAA and .902 SV% behind an abysmal 6-26-0 Post team.

The Lakers will open the season with a home exhibition contest against the London Junior Devilettes from Canada at 3 p.m. on October 16.  Regular season action kicks off with a 7 p.m. matchup against Adrian College of Michigan on October 28 in the Campus Center.
