Orange Duo Earns CHA Player of the Month Honors – Syracuse University Athletics

Junior Sarah Thompson and freshman Maya D’Arcy are adding to their list of 2022-23 College Hockey America honors. The pair earned the College Hockey America Forward and Defenseman of the Month, respectively, for their efforts in Syracuse’s 4-2 November. Thompson scored six goals, including her first career hat trick, had five assists and won 68 percent of her faceoffs in Syracuse’s six games. D’Arcy tallied four assists, 12 shots and six blocks in six outings.

 

A two-time CHA Forward of the Week in November, Thompson scored four points in four of six games last month. In the CHA, she is tied for third in goals (8), tied for fourth in points (14), tied for first in power play goals (3), tied for second in shorthanded goals (1) and tied for seventh in face off win percentage (.500). The Ottawa, Ontario native is part of the Orange faceoff unit that ranks fourth nationally and leads the CHA in faceoff win percentage.

 

D’Arcy earned the CHA Rookie of the Week for her efforts against Clarkson and Princeton, and the league Defenseman of the Week Award for her performance against Post. She recorded her first career multi-point game against Post. The Cambridge, Ontario native has six points in her first season at Syracuse, including one goal and five assists, and 13 blocks. D’Arcy earned CHA Rookie of the Week during the fifth week of the season for her performance in the Clarkson series.

 

Both Thompson and D’Arcy are on Syracuse’s power play unit that ranks ninth nationally and leads the CHA and the penalty kill unit that ranks 13th nationally and second in the CHA.

 

The Orange (7-9-1 overall, 4-0 CHA) will play at Penn State Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4. Both games will be streamed on B1G+.
