No. 1 Men's Hockey Wins 14th Straight Following Victory at Arcadia – Utica University Athletics

GLENSIDE, PA – The No. 1 Utica University men’s hockey team defeated the Arcadia University Knights 7-1 on Saturday night. 

 

The Pioneers had six different goal scorers in the game while Justin Allen (Hilton, NY/Rochester Monarchs (NCDC)) led the way with two. Jayson Dobay (Weymouth, MA/Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)), Shane Murphy (Oriskany, NY/Danbury Hat Tricks (NAHL)), Lucas Herrmann (Elma, NY/University of New Hampshire (NCAA DI)), Kimball Johnson (Coppell, TX/University of St. Thomas (NCAA DI)) and Dante Zapata (Huntington Beach, CA/Austin Bruins (NAHL)) also scored in the win. 

 

Matt Wood (Garnet Valley, PA/Richmond Generals (USPHL)) tallied two assists while seven others had one on the night. In goal, Bryan Landsberger (Montreal, Quebec/Nepean Raiders (CCHL)) earned the win with 18 saves in nearly 51 minutes between the pipes. Avery Sturtz (Marion, IA/Maine Nordiques (NAHL)) finished the final 9:16 in goal with three saves. 

 

Utica put 65 shots on goal while limiting Arcadia to 22. 

 

Murphy kicked things off for the Pioneers with a first period goal at 6:25 while Allen (8:46) scored on a power play and Johnson (13:24) ensured a 3-0 lead after one full. 

 

In the second, Utica tacked on two more goals. On a Knights power play, Hermann produced a shorthanded goal for Utica at 10:59 to push the game to 4-0 in favor of the Pioneers. Less than a minute later, Zapata made it 5-0 thanks to Buster Larsson (Malmo, Sweden/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) and Brandon Osmundson (Virginia Beach, VA/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)) assists. 

 

In the third, Dobay scored at 6:18 to put the team ahead 6-0. While Arcadia broke through at 10:44, Allen responded right back with his second of the night 20 seconds later as the Pioneers took their 14th game in a row. 

 

No. 1 Utica (21-2-1, 19-0-0 UCHC) looks to complete its perfect conference record on Sunday as the team wraps up its regular season at Arcadia at 12:15 p.m.
