New Hartford Woman to Represent Team USA

USA Hockey begins play at International Tournaments in the next couple weeks at different locations throughout the world. The main event being the IIHF World Junior Championship which runs from December 26th through January 5th in Vancouver.

However the Central New York area should follow along with this years IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships being held in Obihiro, Japan. the tournament runs January 6th through the 13th and features teams from eight countries including the United States. Team USA announced their roster over the weekend and included on that list is 17-year-old Sydney Bard of New Hartford.

Bard grew up playing hockey in Utica and Syracuse where she was a member of the 2012 and 2017 New York State Champion teams. Bard currently plays for the Toronto Aeros in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League. The PWHL is the highest level of junior women’s amateur hockey in Ontario. Through 22 games Bard has recorded 5 goals and 8 assists while racking up 28 penalty minutes. Bard has committed to to Colgate University where she will join the team in the fall as a first-year.

Team USA begins play on Sunday January 6th against Russia. They will also face Canada January 7th and Sweden January 9th to wrap up preliminary play. Since United States is in Group A they automatically advance to the Playoff Round against the top two teams from Group B. The two top-seeded teams from Group A receive a Quarter-Final bye automatically advancing them the Semi-Finals.
