NCAA Weekend Recap

Hamilton College

Friday, January 18th

Wesleyan 4-9-0 (1-6-0, NESCAC) – 1
Hamilton 10-4-1 (4-2-1, NESCAC) – 4

Wesleyan got on the board first at 10:29 of the first after a point shot was deflected in front and sneaked between the arm and pad of goaltender Sammy Johnson. Johnson finished with 10 saves and improved to 6-1-0 on the season. Just under four minutes later Jess Haviland poked a loose puck past the Wesleyan goalie tying the game at one.

Andrea Rockey gave the Continentals a lead at 4:29 of the second period on a broken play off a face-off. Jenna Jewell won the face-off forward and Rockey tossed an innocent looking backhand towards the net from the bottom of the circle. The puck deflected off a defender and squeaked by the short-side post and into the back of the net.

Kate Piacenza scored a power-play goal at 12:19 of the third extending the Hamilton lead to 3-1. Nancy Loh had a shot blocked in the slot, but the puck bounced over to Piacenza who was staring at a wide open net. The goal was her fifth of the year, three of which have come with a man advantage.

Jewell finished off her three point night on her first goal of the season with 5:06 left in the game. Taegan Blackwell fired a point shot on net that was knocked down before reaching the goaltender. Jewell found the loose puck and stuffed it into the goal.
