Connecticut College 4-8-1 (0-6-1, NESCAC) – 4
Hamilton College 6-6-1 (4-3-1, NESCAC) – 7
A hat-trick from Justin Felhaber led the Continentals to a 7-4 victory of Connecticut College Friday night at Sage Rink. Connecticut College got on the board first only 2:43 into the game, but Hamilton responded back with five unaswered goals.
Felhaber, Teddy Simpson, and Sam Jones scored in the first period to put the home team ahead 3-1. The second period began with goals from Jon Beniers and Felhaber’s second of the night extending the Hamilton lead to 5-1. Conn College scored two quick goals only a minute and a half apart before Chad Varney added one more for Hamilton. The second period ended with the Continentals leading 6-3.
Connecticut scored a pwoer-play goal at the 10:51 mark and Felhaber wrapped up his hat-trick with an empty net goal at 19:27. Anthony Tirabassi made 28 saves improving his record to 5-5-1.
Saturday, January 12th
Tufts 5-9-0 (2-6-0, NESCAC) – 2
Hamilton College 7-6-1 (5-3-1, NESCAC) – 4
Much like Felhaber the night before, Rory Gagnon scored a goal a period including an empty-netter in the third to record the second hat-trick of his career. Felhaber also added an empty net goal with 13 seconds left to lift the Continentals to a 4-2 victory over Tufts. Tirabassi was in net once again, this time making 26 saves.
Hamilton travels to Amherst this Friday for a 5:00pm puck drop and will then be in SUNY Cortland Saturday night for a 7:00pm start.
Morrisville State
Friday, January 11th
Morrisville 3-10-1 (1-7-0, SUNYAC) – 0
#12 Salve Regina 9-4-2 (6-1-1, CCC) – 3
Junior goaltender Jared Young made 49 saves in an attempt to defeat the #12 team in the country, Salve Regina Friday night. After a scoreless first period, the Seahwks came out flying in the second and fired 20 shots on goal. The period ended with Morrisville trailing 1-0. Salve Regina scored two more goals in a span of about 2:30 in the third to skate away with this one. The Mustangs were outshot 52-14.
Saturday, January 12th
University of New England 10-4-1 (5-3-0, CCC) – 7
Morrisville 3-11-1 (1-7-0, SUNYAC) – 3
A dreadful season continues for Morrisville as they were handed their eleventh loss of the season on Saturday. Ian Wood opened the scoring on a power-play chance 12:33 into the first, but UNE answered less than a minute later to tie the game 1-1. The second period ended with Morrisville trailing 2-1, but the University of New England exploded for five goals in the third period to rout the Mustangs 7-3. CJ Stubbs scored two goals in the third for Morrisville and goalies Sal Stalteri and Jorgen Johnson combined for 29 saves in the loss. Morrisville only managed 13 shots on goal.
Utica College
Friday, January 11th
Utica College 9-5-1 (7-2-0, UCHC) – 3
#5 Oswego State 11-3-1 (5-2-0, SUNYAC) – 3
It only took former Oswego State player Joey Rutkowski 1:14 to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead. Shawn Lynch fired a shot on net and Rutkowski was there to bury the rebound. The Lakers tied the game at one four minutes later on a wrist shot that beat Gianluca Baggetta (26 saves). Utica would regain it’s lead at 13:01 thanks to a Conor Landrigan backhander.
Similiar to the Pioneers quick start in the first period, Oswego tied the game at two goals apiece only 1:19 into the second. However, Utica would regain the lead for the 3rd time at 4:47 of the third. Josh Haskin tipped a Dan Fritz shot into the back of the net. Oswego wasted no time tying the game again and scored just over a minute later. Neither team could find that gamewinner in overtime.
Utica is back on the road for a weekend set of UCHC games at Neumann University on Friday night (7:00pm) and Manhattanville College on Saturday 3:30pm).
