Morrisville attempts comeback, falls short against Brockport

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men’s ice hockey team attempted a third period comeback as they rallied for two goals, but fell short on time and opportunities as Brockport collected the 6-3 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win Saturday evening in Morrisville.

  • Host SUNY Morrisville dropped a SUNYAC outing Saturday evening to visiting SUNY Brockport by a 6-3 final score on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville fell behind 2-0 after the first and trailed by three early in the second before putting one on the board 7:56 in the second as Curtis Abbott (Belmont, Ont.).
  • Chris Mott (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Jake Kaplan (Bowie, Md.) were credited with the assists as the Mustangs cut the Brockport lead to two.
  • Brockport added two back-to-back tallies in less than a minutes time to build the lead to four as they headed into the final period of play.
  • Morrisville attempted a comeback attempt in the third with two straight scores, the first at the 11:13 mark as Mott buried the puck off assists from Abbott and Connor Carlile (Southlake, Tex.), before Cameron Clark (Daytona Beach, Fla.) added another less than a minute later off the feed from Jestin Somero (New Ipswich, N.H.) to pull within two.
  • Brockport was able to seal the win with an empty net goal at 18:48 as Morrisville dropped the SUNYAC outing.
  • Nolan Egbert recorded the win for Brockport, posting 38 stops across the three periods.
  • Garrett Boyonoski (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) posted the loss despite 13 stops in 31 minutes of play before being replaced by Ryan Creenan (Colonia, N.J.) for the final 29.
  • Creenan registered 11 saves while keeping the Golden Eagles scoreless.
  • Neither team was able to capitalize on the power play, Brockport going 0-for-4 and Morrisville 0-3.
