HAMILTON – Captain Danielle Serdachny lit the lamp late in the third period to grab the go-ahead goal in the Raiders’ 4-3 win over Princeton Saturday afternoon in the Class of 1965 Arena.
Elyssa Biederman joined an exclusive group in program history as she recorded her 34th point of the season, the most in program history by a freshman. Biederman netted the game-tying goal 14:08 into the second period.
Colgate forced game three of the ECAC Quarterfinals with a go-ahead goal by Serdachny with 4:50 to play in the third period. The Raiders banged in two power-play goals as its power-play unit went two for three on the night. Serdachny, Kaitlyn O’Donohoe, and Kristýna Kaltounková recorded a team-high two points apiece. Hannah Murphy moved to 17-1-1 on the year as she stopped 16 shots.
Princeton were led by freshman forward Izzy Wunder as she potted a team-high two goals. Wunder was joined by four different Tigers on the score sheet. Goaltender Taylor Hyland stopped 24 of 28 shots.
— Colgate Women’s Hockey (@ColgateWIH) February 25, 2023 In the opening minute of play, Colgate was awarded a power play opportunity as the Raiders took full advantage just seconds later, O’Donohoe powered in the opening goal off passes from Kaltounkova and Serdachny to gain the 1-0 lead.
Princeton answered back with seven minutes remaining in the first as Wunder fired one past Murphy from the top of the slot. The Tigers continued their offensive presence as Maggie Connors found the back of the net with under 10 seconds to go in the first.
However, Kaltounkova found the back of the net just 10 minutes into the second as she scored her ninth power-play goal of the season. The game remained squared at two apiece before Wunder slotted in her second goal of the season with just under seven minutes to play in the second.
The second period continued with a record-breaking goal by Biederman as she pickpocketed the Tigers defender for an unassisted goal to tie the game at three apiece.
After a back-and-forth third period, Serdachny answered the call with just under five minutes to play. The Captain’s go-ahead goal was her 22nd of the season.
The Raiders held on in the final four minutes of play to secure the 4-3 win and force game three.
