Lakers Freeze Cardinals In Whiteout 2022 5-1


OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men’s Hockey team hosted the Plattsburgh Cardinals to kick off their annual White Out Weekend. The Cardinals could not keep up with the Laker offense as they held the majority of the possession throughout. 


Final Score: #10 Oswego State 5 (2-1, 1-0 SUNYAC), Plattsburgh 1 (1-2, 0-1 SUNYAC) 

Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena & Convocation Hall, Oswego, NY


The Lakers struck first, at even strength with just over 4 minutes left in the first period. Scoring for Oswego was Matt McQuade, assisted by Connor Sleeth. This was McQuade’s first collegiate goal and his fourth point of the season. By the end of the contest, McQuade would be tied for the team lead in points with Sleeth (5). 

Oswego would lead 1-0 going into the second period.

Cal Schell recorded 7 saves in the first period for Oswego.

Oswego would score again, just under halfway through the second period of play. Scoring for the Lakers was Thomas Rocco, assisted by Connor Sleeth and Tommy Cahill.

The Lakers would get their third goal of the night at 13:10 in the second period. This goal would be scored by Shane Bull, the assists coming from Ben Addison and Matt McQuade

Schell added 9 more saves in the second period.

Things got chippy late in the third period, with someone from Plattsburgh being ejected from the contest with 6 minutes remaining. 

The Lakers would respond with their fourth goal of the night. Scoring for Oswego was Ryan Dickinson, assisted by Connor Sleeth

Plattsburgh pulled their goalie late in the third, and Thomas Rocco was able to get open on the fast break and score on the empty net with an assist from Drake Semrad.

Cal Schell recorded his first collegiate victory with 28 saves total. 


The Lakers will host the Potsdam Bears tomorrow, November 5th at 7pm for their Military Appreciation Night, rounding out Whiteout 2022. Come out and show support for your Lakers and the military!
