The NCDC team was in Wayne, New Jersey Friday evening to take on the undefeated Jersey Hitmen. This was the Comets first game since Halloween due to the restriction on ice hockey being played in New York State. This marked the fourth time these two teams have met already this season. The Comets have lost all four games by a combined score of 16-2, but both of those goals came in a 4-2 loss back on October 30th.
The Comets added two more goals to their goal total versus the Hitmen, but they also allowed 7. Jersey scored first taking a 1-0 lead 4:03 into the game. Walter Baumann evened the score back at one scoring a goal assisted by Riley Brennan and Drew Rose at the 5:28 mark. This was the first game with the Comets for Rose.
It was all Hitmen from that point forward. They scored three goals in the second period holding a commanding 4-1 lead heading into the last 20 minutes. Jersey pumped in another goal at the 7:32 mark which ended the night for starting goalie Cameron Whitehead. Whitehead finished with 32 saves on 37 shots through 47:32 of action. Derian Rensch (Trun, Switzerland) came in to relieve Whitehead making his North American hockey debut.
The Hitmen scored a quick goal to extend their lead to 6-1 at 7:50 of the period. The added their final tally at the 12:35 mark of the period. Jesse Galassi scored is first of the season with 1:30 left in the game to make the score 7-2. Ben Kuzma and Sam Techel picked up assists. Rensch finished with 6 saves on 8 shots.
The Comets next scheduled games are Friday, December 4th at Philadelphia Hockey Club and Sunday, December 6th against these same Jersey Hitmen.
