Jersey Hitmen (5-0-0) – 4
In their two previous meetings the Hitmen outscored the Comets 12-0. Utica was able to score a couple goals in this matchup, and even held a lead for a brief period of time, but ultimately fell to the undefeated Hitmen.
Jersey outshot the Comets 15-6 in the opening frame, but Cameron Whitehead stood strong in goal turning away 14 of the 15 shots. The Hitmen scored at the 18:57 mark to take the 1-0 lead.
Utica had a much better second period firing 15 shots on goal. Luke French tied the game up at 8:16 of the second with his first goal of the season. Just over a minute later at 9:37 Riley Brennan scored a power-play goal to put the Comets ahead 2-1. Donald Borgula and Walter Baumann picked up assists on the power-play tally. The lead didn’t even last for a full 60 seconds and Jersey tied the game at 10:21 of the period. The teams battled throughout the rest of the period, but another late period goal would put the Hitmen ahead with 20 minutes left to play.
The Comets played arguably their best period of the game in the third. They outshot Jersey 11-7, but couldn’t find the equalizer. With Whitehead on the bench Jersey sealed the victory with an empty net goal with a minute and a half left.

The Comets return to the ice at 5:30pm tonight against the Rockets Hockey Club. The Rockets are undefeated in regulation (8-0-1) and previously beat Utica 6-0.
