NFHS Weekend Wrap-Up

Division I

Saturday, March 2nd

#3 Syracuse (22-1-1) – 2
Pittsford (13-7-2) – 1

The Cougars came out flying and scored their only goals of the game in the first period. Goals were scored by Ryan Durand and Nathan Frye. Picking up assists were Andrew Corning, Philip Zollo, Stephan Matro, and Ryan Eccles. Alex Moreno made 21 saves while only allowing one goal.

Syracuse will play in the Division I State Semi-Final at 4:30pm on Saturday. They will face #13 Orchard Park from Section VI. If the Cougars advance to the Final it will be on Sunday, March 10th at 3:00pm against either Suffern or Canton. Both State semi-final and final games are being played at the Harborcenter in Buffalo.

Division II

#1 Skaneateles (20-1-2) – 4
#3 Grand Island (18-3-3) – 0

Most of the first period was played with the teams deadlocked at zero until Gick picked up a loose puck off a face-off won by Luke Lynn and fired it in for a 1-0 lead. A power-play goal at the ten minute mark of the second by Jack Henry put the Lakers ahead 2-0.

Charlie Major dropped a pass for Garrett Krieger who fired a shot into the Grand Island net giving Skaneateles a 3-0 lead early in the third. With five minutes left Charlie Russell scored the fourth goal for the Lakers. Adam Casper earned the shutout while making 17 saves.

Skaneateles will play Section V champ #2 Webster-Thomas Saturday at 11:45am. The winner will face either Queensbury or John Jay on Sunday.
