Morrisville (4-5-1, 3-2-1 NEWHL) – 1
Hamilton’s Michaela Giuttari recorded the first hat trick of her collegiate career as the Continentals defeated the Mustangs 5-1 Friday afternoon. The two teams faced-off one week ago, Hamilton also won that game 6-0.
Morrisville opened the scoring 3:50 into the first. Madalyn Box intercepted a Hamilton clearing attempt and fired a slap shot straight down the center that went directly into the back of the net. It was the only goal Sammy Johnson (16 saves) would allow.
With 58 seconds left in the period Hamilton, Giuttari scored her first of three goals to even the score. She stole the puck from a Morrisville forward attempting to clear the zone and rushed up the right side before burying a shot into the top right corner.
Maura Holden fed a pass to Giuttari who skated to the slot and fired a bar down shot for a 2-1 lead. The goal came 1:11 into the second period. Hamilton converted on a power play at the 13:43 mark to gain a two-goal advantage. Missy Segall put home a Kate Piazenza shot for the score.
Guittari capped off the hat trick at 4:48 of the third period. She stole the puck in her defensive zone and rushed up the right side of the ice. She cut to the middle, deked Mustang goalie Sissy Harman (37 saves) and tapped the puck over the goal line. Segall picked up her team high fifth assist on the goal. Four minutes later Hamilton scored their final goal of the game when Segall knocked a loose puck past Harman.
Morrisville returns to action the weekend of January 3rd when they travel to Neumann University for a weekend series.
