SUNY Canton (4-3-1) – 3
Hamilton (2-4-0, 1-2-0 NESCAC) – 2
A late third period goal lifted the Canton Kangaroos to a 3-2 victory Saturday night at Russell Sage Rink.
Nick Rutigliano gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season at the 13:45 mark of the first period. Nick Hawkins picked up a rebound off a Rutigliano point shot and passed it back to Teddy Simson. Simson slid the puck across the ice to Rutigliano who one-timed the puck over the right shoulder of the Canton goaltender.
SUNY Canton tied things up 2:51 into the second period, but the Continentals responded less than two minutes later. Josh Labonte passed the puck across the blue line to Rutigliano who fired a pass through the slot to Andrew Court. Court wristed a shot top shelf for the power-play score.
Once again Canton fought back and tied the game in the opening minute of the third period on a 2-on-1. The teams battled the remainder of the third in efforts to break the tie. Just when it looked like the game would be heading to overtime Canton scored on a 1-on-1 with only 7 seconds remaining in the game. Sean Storr finished with 16 saves for the Continentals. Hamilton had 38 shots on goal.
Hamilton returns to home ice this weekend for a pair of NESCAC games. Williams College comes to town Friday night (7pm) followed by Middlebury on Saturday afternoon at 3pm.
