SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Oswego junior forward Kyleigh Grugin (Knoxville, TN) has been named the Northeast Women’s Hockey League’s Player of the Week. The honor is for games contested from Monday, Nov. 1, through Sunday, Nov. 7, and was announced by the NEWHL on Tuesday, Nov. 9.
Grugin tallied three goals in in a win and a tie for the Lakers as Oswego remained unbeaten at 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the NEWHL. The Knoxville, Tenn., native registered the game-winning goal in the second period of an 8-1 win over Buffalo State on Saturday, Nov. 6.
After the Bengals scored the opening tally late in the first period, Grugin helped ignite a streak of eight unanswered goals for Oswego by scoring twice and snapping a 1-1 tie early in the second period with what ultimately proved to be the game-winning goal.
On Sunday, Nov. 7, she was instrumental in helping Oswego forge a 4-4 tie after knotting the game 3-3 in the second period.
Grugin accrued a +3 rating during the opening conference weekend as the Lakers claimed three of a possible four points.
Through the support of Oswego Health, admission into Oswego State Women’s Ice Hockey regular season home games is free of charge for the 2021-22 season.
