Graduate student Arielle DeSmet posted a .925 save percentage against the University of Vermont’s 10th-ranked offense en route to earning College Hockey America’s Goaltender of the Week Award. DeSmet recorded 49 saves shots in the two-game series to post a 2.05 goals against average. The 13th-ranked Catamounts were averaging 3.26 goals per game coming into the weekend.
DeSmet, who ranks second on Syracuse’s career saves record list with 1,940, had 49 saves on the weekend. The Charlotte, Vt. native posted 25 saves in the first game of the series, including 15 in the second period. She is tied for fourth on the Orange career wins record list and her seven shutouts is sixth in program history.
This is DeSmet’s 11th career CHA weekly honor and third of the season.
Syracuse (7-13-1 overall, 4-2 CHA) will host #5 Colgate on Tuesday, January 10 at 6 pm at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
