DeSmet and Marchand Earn CHA Honors

Syracuse goaltender Arielle DeSmet is the College Hockey America Goaltender of the Week for the second consecutive week and forward Sarah Marchand is the league’s Forward of the Week. The pair led the Orange in a series sweep of RIT.

DeSmet recorded her seventh career shutout in a 1-0 win against RIT on Thursday at Tennity Ice Pavilion. She had 42 saves and a .977 save percentage. This season DeSmet has 297 saves and leads the CHA in saves per game (27.0 spg). The Charlotte, Vt. native has 1,721 career saves in 69 games, which ranks second on the Syracuse career record list. trailing only Kallie Billadeau, who had 2,161 in 81 games from 2010 through 2014.

Marchand tallied her 10th career multi-point game with a pair of goals, including a power play goal and a shorthanded score, and an assist in Syracuse’s 4-1 win at RIT on Saturday. Her second goal of the contest was the game-winner. In the two-game series, Marchand had two goals, one assist and nine faceoff wins. The Belle River, Ontario native ranks fourth in the CHA in points (9) and is tied for fifth in assists (6) this season.

The Orange (3-7-1 overall) will host Lindenwood on November 4th and 5th at Tennity Ice Pavilion during Alumni Weekend, which will feature the 2022 CHA Ring Ceremony. Fans are invited to celebrate all former Orange skaters and the 2022 CHA regular season and tournament champions on Saturday, Nov. 5th. Both games will be streamed on Cuse.com.
