Yale (1-2-0, 1-2-0 ECAC) – 1
Colgate (2-4-3, 1-0-0 ECAC) – 2
Colgate opened up ECAC play with a 3-1 win over Yale at home on Friday evening. Colgate scored both goals in the first period over a 78 second span.
At 7:49 of the period Colton Young redirected an Arnaud Vachon pass to put the Raiders up 1-0. Paul McAvoy increased the lead to 2-0 when he poked home the rebound from a Matt Verboon shot.
Yale had their chances to get on the board after being rewarded three straight power-play in the second and third periods. They finally got on the board at 2:03 of the third period ending Mitch Benson’s shutout bid. Benson finished with 34 saves on the night.
“I was pleased with the start. Clearly we were great out of the gate. Our penalty kill was exceptional tonight. Your best penalty-killer has to be your goalie, and Mitch Benson was that tonight for us, for sure.” said head coach Don Vaughn.
