The Colgate men’s team opened their season over the weekend in front of a sold out Class of 1965 Arena. RIT was first to get on the board just 3:11 into the game. They built a 2-0 shortly after on a power-play goal at 8:09. Josh McKechney scored the first goal of the season for Colgate while on a power-play at 10:06 of the first period. Ross Craig and Jeff Stewart assisted.
RIT added their second power-play goal of the game at 2:47 of the second to complete the scoring for the evening. Colgate had a golden opportunity to get back in the game when RIT was assessed a major and a game misconduct at 10:42 of the third. The Raiders were unable to capitalize and dropped their season opener 3-1.
Colgate outshot the Tigers 34 to 14. Raiders goaltender Mitch Benson made 11 saves.
The Colgate men hit the road for another non-conference game against Ferris State on Thursday October 10th at 7:07pm. On Sunday, October 13th the Raiders will be back at home hosting the Boston College Eagles at 4:00pm.
