College hockey is back in Central New York as the Colgate and Syracuse University’s Women’s Hockey Teams were victorious over the weekend in exhibition games.
The number six ranked nationally (you can see the entire poll here: https://uscho.com) Colgate Raiders defeated the St. Lawrence University Saints on Sunday afternoon at home by a score of 3-0. Kayle Osborne and Hannah Murphy split the shutout for the Raiders with Osborne making thirteen saves and Murphy making fifteen. Kaitlyn O’Donohoe (one goal and one assist) and Danielle Serdachny (two assists) led Colgate in points scored with two each, while Sydney Bard and Kristyna Kaltounkova scored for the Raiders as well. St. Lawrence outshot Colgate by a twenty-eight to twenty-five margin, but the Raiders were more successful on the power play – going one for two while the Saints went zero for three.
On Saturday, the Syracuse Orange traveled to Messa Rink at the Achillies Center in Schenectady, NY, and picked up a 3-1 victory over the Union College Dutchwomen in their exhibition game. Arielle DeSmet (four saves), Amelia Van Vliet (nine saves), and Ariella Merlino (thirteen saves) split the goaltending duties, while Tatum White, Brynn Koocher, Anna Leschyshyn scored the Syracuse goals. Union outshot Syracuse by a margin of twenty-seven to twenty-one and were more successful on the power play – converting one of their six chances while the Orange were blanked in their five opportunities, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Orange. This was Head Coach Britni Smith’s first game behind the bench for Syracuse.
Colgate and Syracuse will open their regular seasons on Saturday, September 24th when they face each other on Colgate’s home ice at the Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, NY. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm EDT and will have an ECAC championship banner presentation for the Raiders prior to the start of the game.
