Syracuse senior Mae Batherson is the College Hockey America Defenseman of the Month for her performance in a three-game stretch against Cornell and Lindenwood. In the series at Lindenwood, Batherson tallied a goal and an assist in each game, in addition to blocking three shots. The New Minas, Nova Scotia native scored the game-winner on a power play goal against the Lions in the first game of the series. Against the Big Red she blocked two shots.
An assistant captain, Batherson ranks among the top scoring defensemen in Syracuse history. She is sixth on the career points (54) and goals by a defenseman record list (13) and is tied for sixth on the Orange career assists by a defenseman record ledger (41). The New Minas, Nova Scotia tallied her 50th career point with an assist against #5 Colgate (Jan. 10, 2023).
An assistant captain, Batherson is second on the team in assists with 11, has 22 blocks and 52 shots in 25 games. The honor is her third of the season and the seventh of her career. Batherson has also earned CHA Defenseman of the Month twice in her career. The New Minas, Nova Scotia native was the CHA Defenseman of the Week for her performance at the Ice Breaker Tournament and at Merrimack earlier this season.
The Orange (8-16-1 overall/5-3 CHA) will play at RIT tonight and host the Tigers tomorrow (1/25) at 6 pm in a home-and-home series and then the Orange close out the six-game in 10 days stretch at Mercyhurst on Saturday January 28th and Sunday Jan. 29th.
