#3 Pioneers Drop Second Game At #1 Adrian

ADRIAN, Michigan – After a wild overtime loss on Friday, the #3 Utica University men’s ice hockey team didn’t have as strong of a performance the second time around. #1 Adrian scored the first three goals of the game and didn’t look back as they rolled past the Pioneers by an 8-3 score in Adrian, Michigan.

The non-conference loss puts Utica at 0-2, while the sweep puts the Bulldogs at 2-0.

The Pioneers held a slight edge in shots on goal at a 33-30 margin. The teams combined to go 1-for-8 on the power play, with Adrian netting the lone man advantage tally.

Regen Cavanagh (Chesapeake, VA/Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL)), Brandon Osmundson (Virginia Beach, VA/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)), and Buster Larsson (Malmo, Sweden/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) had the Utica goals in the matchup, while Connor Fedorek (Bethel Park, PA/Ferris State University (NCAA DI)) recorded two assists. Cavanagh’s goal was his second of the weekend.

Adrian was led by a three goal, one assist effort from Friday’s overtime hero, Matus Spodniak. Bradley Somers, John Kaljian, Ryan Pitoscia, Hunter Wendt, and Ty Enns also added goals.

In goal, Bryan Landsberger (Montreal, Quebec/Nepean Raiders (CCHL)), Andrew Doran (Orchard Park, NY/Peoria Mustangs (NA3HL)), and Avery Sturtz (Marion, IA/Maine Nordiques (NAHL)) combined to make 22 saves for the Pioneers. It was the first collegiate regular season action for Doran and Sturtz.

The Pioneers will face Stevenson next weekend to open UCHC Play.
